The 22nd Street Steps

Help Build the 22nd St Trail Stair!

The Friends of Potrero Hill Recreation Center is comprised of community members working to make the neighborhood’s recreation center even better. Potrero Hill Recreation Center, at the crest of Potrero Hill, has nearly eleven acres of ballfields, basketball and tennis courts, children’s and toddlers’ play areas, a large dog run, and a large indoor gymnasium with community rooms, all encircled by walking trails with views of the Bay, the Central Waterfront, and the downtown skyline.

Currently, Friends of Potrero Hill Rec are working to improve a steep, rock and dirt path on the park’s north edge by building a box-step trail stair. The path is the only way to access the park from the east, providing entry from the Potrero Annex housing complex and Dogpatch. It is also part of a key neighborhood route linking Potrero Hill to Caltrain, the T Line and waterfront, and part of a pedestrian route from the Mission to the waterfront.

Plans for the stair are complete and approved by Rec Park and are undergoing city reviews and permitting. The project has been generously supported with grants from UCSF and other donors. The project team is asking community members to help raise $5,000 to help build the stair.
